 Newsletter July 2011

By now you should have all either read via email or from your Team Manager received a copy of  “The Marist Way”.

This is about sportsmanship and fair play. Play the game with zest, competition and determination but keep the idea of fair play. This applies to not only the players but anyone associated with the sport – managers, coaches and our most loyal supporters. Remember:

Our mission – we want to be the club to beat but also the club you don’t mind losing to (as we are competitive but play fair)!

It has been awesome to display teams from all grades as “Team of the Week” on the front page of the website.  For those that are yet to have this tribute for your team get in quick as the season is drawing to a close. This is an opportunity for your team to shine.  If you would like to nominate your team for "Team of the Week"  just take some photos, write down a few words and forward them to Angela Balchin balchins@xtra.co.nz and then watch that space.

Cathy’s Say: It is hard to believe we are half way through the season and the weather has been rather kind to us. I am thrilled with how the teams are all going and would like to thank all our coaches for the time and effort they are putting into their teams at training and games. I enjoy catching up on a Saturday morning at the junior games and at the training sessions at Marist and I love to be involved and watching the children’s progress.

All of the competitions are running smoothly, the teams are training well and this has been reflected in the results. Thanks to all our junior umpires for turning up each week to umpire for our teams.  This is not an easy job and we acknowledge that you are still learning.

I have been focusing on getting all our players from minis up hitting the ball with correct technique. Many of our coaches are struggling with getting their team to stay in their positions so I have been working with the players on this area of the game and it was great to hear the positive feedback at subsequent training sessions.  Some of our coaches have attended Chris Leslie coaching clinic which is great.

Our own club coaches meeting was very successful with a good turn out. As a result I will spend more time with our first time coaches providing a drill of the week so they can look at it and use it in training.  My plan is to meet with all the coaches for a brief of the ‘drill of the day’ and then with each team separately to ensure all is well. Keep up the good work and positive energy.  Remember coaches it won’t happen over night but it will happen if you have the three D’s  Desire Determination Dedication

Finally the Marist Junior Idol was a great hit with many fantastic performances and what a turn out. It is wonderful to see the kids showing off their other talents. Well done to all the performers it was a great night.

Senior Club Captain & Junior Club Captain: Unfortunatey CHA has fielded a number of complaints this season from all clubs.  It is important to remember you have the right to raise concern over the standard of play however if you to want to register a complaint about the game you just played think very carefully about this before doing so. Follow procedure and ensure you notify the junior or senior club captain by email. Remember though we must at all times play within the guidelines as defined by CHA.  See the website for further information on code of conduct.

Events:

Holiday Programme:Tuesday 19th & 26th July 2011.  At Marist Park. To be run by our very own Cathy Baker.

This will be the third school holiday programme held by Marist and if past events are anything to go by the weather will be great and the kids will have a wonderful time while learning more about the game they love.

The first week will focus on skills training while the second week will encompass both skills & 6 aside games for the junior grades.  All coaches and umpires are encouraged to attend. This is a great opportunity to seek assistance and to learn from others.   More details on the website.
